Something Special: Bikinis, Beaches, and *itches Video playlist

Although it is a slow but wonderful Monday, and I should be posting some new mixtapes, I just wanted to take a minute to get a little off topic. With summer approaching and the temperatures rising, the women of the music world take their latest visuals for their chart climbing singles to the beach, swamps, and deserts. In this post, Rihanna, Dawn Richards, and Nicki Minaj recently dropped videos for their respected hits and future hits. Being the admirer of the video art and these songstress, I wanted to share with you their latest efforts. Enjoy!

Rihanna "Where have You Been"
With a movie on the way (Battleship) and a platinum album with multiple hits and an upcoming tour, it is safe to say that Rihanna is currently one of the hottest female artists out. Today she continued to show off her new black hair and some newly found African inspired dance moves with her latest music video for fan-favorite hit "Where Have You Been".
In this Dave Meyers directed video, Rihanna explores many different visuals and environments. From windy deserts to sitting in the trees, Rihanna looked good in every scene. She was even able to make the swamp, she emerges and departs from in the beginning and end, look appealing. One thing that stood out most with every change of environment were her dance moves that mixed well with the lyrics and tone of the each verse. Although Rihanna is not the best dancer, she still keeps up with the bakground dancers while letting her sexy capture most of the attention. This video is definitely one of her bests and exactly what thissubpar, borderline generic beat driven song needed to further stand out from the rest of the album. Meyers and Rihanna should pat themselves on the backfor this one because  the concept, make-up, style, visuals, and choreography for this video are great.

Nicki Minaj "Starships"
There isnt a radio station or anywhere you can go without hearing the catchy chorus or nursery rhyme beat of "Starships" off Nicki Minaj's latest LP. Like "Superbass", this is another pop/radio-friendly song but one thing it lacks that "Superbass" had was lyrics that actually make any type of sense. She recently dropped a visual for the radio hit and, like the lyrics, it has nothing to do with the song. One thing that makes this video enjoyable to watch, besides the mute button, is the fact that Nicke's body is drool worthy. In nothing but a pink bikini and green wig, she struts along the beack and sand, showing off the assets that make her stand out from other rap chicks in the game. She seems to have figured that the worse the song, the more provocative she needs to become. An example of this idea is the video for "Beez in the Trap". Both videos are best watched on mute...

 Dawn Richards "Bombs"
Former Diddy Dirty Money and Danity Kane starlet Dawn Richards has recently stepped out on her own to further develop her solo career. With a #1 EP released earlier this year, titled Armor On, she released a video for one of its lead singles "BOMBS". Considering that the video dropped in late March, it took me a minute to get to a review for it but here is a perfect chance for those who havent seen it yet. Although the video doesn't have her in a bikini or on the beach, it is still a hot visual with strong military and african tribal dance influenced choreography. Dawn definitely does her thing and came strong for her first effort but the song is a little overproduced and it makes it hard to hear exaclty what her unique voice is saying. I believe that with the right production and team behind her, she can become one of the top female acts in the industry because she is a great dancer with a memorable and distinct voice.

Gotcha B!tch...!

I debated for awhile to even mention or talk about this, but after about 2 minutes of thinking I decided to finally make a little post about the couple prone to controversy; Rihanna and Chris Brown. Mostly known for their less than healthy relationship and highly publicized Ike and Tina-esque break-up, the two continue to stir the rumor mills that they are back together by doing remixes to both their newest singles "Turn Up the Music" and "Birthday Cake".
Rihanna was the first to release the long anticipated completion to her raunchy "Birthday Cake" from Talk That Talk on her birthday. What made the internet and Twitter practically go nuts is the fact that she decided to throw Brown on the track for a verse and some yodeling. Chris later followed by releasing the remix to his latest hit "Turn Up the Music" off his upcoming LP Fortune, dropping later this year. The "Birthday Cake" remix was long awaited and the track is not bad. It will get some club rotation but I do not see it being a huge hit, plus Brown's "sex-appeal" is kind of corny. I think Trey Songz would have been a better singer or Wale for a hot 16. Brown's "Turn up the music" remix is not that different of a song with Rihanna on it, seemed a little pointless. The fact that she fuels their rumored "make-up" by continuously saying that she loves him/misses him just adds to the lack of respect for fans. Now I am not here to judge really and what these two decide to do behind close doors is really their business, but they should have came out with another track together titled "Gotcha, America!"
After such a intense break-up and Rihanna becoming as much of a role model for young female fans by not going back, it is either a desperate attempt to keep names in tabloids or a form of guilt for allegedly also hitting/instigating the fight the night before the Grammy's. The only advice that I can recommend for the dysfunctional couple is that Chris still has "throwing water coolers" anger issues that he still needs to work out and Rihanna needs to be mindful of her fanbase. For a subpar singer with limited dance moves, her fanbase and looks, and now controversy, are the only things keeping her pockets fat and name in headlines. To turn your back on the ones who look up to you and make you rich is like biting the hands that feeds you. Forgiveness is a noble and beautiful thing, but can you really work and forgive someone you know really hasn't changed?

New Music playlist

Since it went so well last week, I decided to keep the same concept of one post, short description, and list of music to fill your playlist. In the spirit of Friday and freedom, today is a good time to bring you the latest music to help release the stress of the working week.

"Rihanna's Gun" Chris Cab ft. Mavado & Wyclef- Dancehall has been lacking from the mainstream for awhile. To bring back the smooth and melodic sounds that the Carribean islands emcompass, Chris Cab took inspiration from one of the most famous island girl's of today, Rihanna. This track is smooth and lyrically focuses on the crazy that some island girls may possess, but its just hard to stay away sometimes.

"Far From a Bitch" and "You Don't Know" Yelawolf- Im not gonna lie, I slept on Yelawolf before but after listening to his album, I have become a fan. He delivers on these leaked tracks, definitely worth a listen and I can understand why Shady endorses him.

"You don't know"
Although David Guetta isn't the most respected and loved of the techno/house/dubstep DJ gods, he definitely knows how to make hits. Below is a fan made visual for "Turn Me On" ft Nicki Minaj and a link for "Nothing Really Matters" ft Will.I.Am. Both songs are off Guetta's latest album Nothing But the Beat.

"Hi, Rihanna!"

Off her latest LP Talk that Talk, Rihanna has dropped a new visual for her single "You Da One." The track hasn't been as commercially successful as the smash hit "We Found Love" but you can't hate on the video. This monochromatic Rihanna is just as sexy as the druggie one in her lead single video ("We Found Love") and makes sure to show as much crouch grabbing as possible. Not sure who has been putting it down on her lately, but I wouldn't mind being first in line. Would be the perfect gift of the holiday season. Hi, Rihanna! Enjoy...

Bad Girls Need Love too

If you have been reading the older posts, you’ll know that multiple tracks from Rihanna’s upcoming LP Talk That Talk were featured. Now the album has finally arrived and, for those who did not download the leak, once again Rihanna strives to reach the same success achieved with her previous two works. With Talk that Talk Rihanna continues to experiment with new sounds to show off her growth towards a more pop/dance sound.
Continuing her success from Loud, Rihanna’s Talk that Talk reassures fans that she is still the resident “bad-girl” with a good girl heart. Beginning with a very pop and light song “You Da One,” she still stays true to the image that gained her so much success from Good Girl Gone Bad with lines like “Shouldn't have hit it like that/Had me yelling like that.” Following is the standout hit of the album “We Found Love.” A Calvin Harris UK dance/pop produced track sound that is reminiscent of her Grammy award winning “Only Girl in the World” and carries the recurring theme of love heard throughout the album (“We All Want Love,” “Drunk on Love,” and “Fool in Love”). She continues this need to find love with the dubstep/dance track “Where Have You Been.” However with the following tracks “Talk that Talk,” “Birthday Cake,” “Red lipstick,” and “Do Ya Thang,” Rihanna assures her listeners that she is not just looking for anyone to give her that soft Taylor Swift kind of love to hug and kiss her good night but a man that can handle her sexual, edgy vibe. She asks you to “Suck her Cockiness, lick her Persuasion” while still being her “sex slave” in “Cockiness (Love It).” With “Watch n’ Learn” she stays true to the dancehall, Caribbean sound that she found success with but adds a more light and annoyingly catchy beat that her fans have grown to love. One thing that definitely stood out was the extensive choice of ballads. It will be interesting to see if this is more then just great production or raw talent from the singer.
With A-List producers Alex Da Kid, StarGate, Mr. Bangladesh, The-Dream, and many more, Talk that Talk has both international appeal and a more mature sound from Rihanna. Although she may seem hard and sometimes blatantly obvious with sexual innuendos (“I Love it when you eat it”), this album is a solid pop record that keeps the same charisma of previous LP’s but fails in innovation.

Psh It’s Not Even Her Birthday

Rihanna has been on the top of the charts with pop and some calypso influenced singles that stay stuck in your head. Now she is back with a new album Talk That Talk set to drop in a couple days this month. The standard version of the album has already been leaked and one track that I have seen many of her Stans (stalking fans) go crazy for is “Birthday Cake.” The track is definitely catchy and is something that twerkers and non-twerkers can love. The clapping beat and revving engine sounds ad to her already hit making vocals. Fans all over already know that even though it’s not her birthday, Rihanna definitely got cakes…
