UFC 140 Verdict: Jon 'Bones' Jones remains a beast
(Late Sunday post) This Sunday I wanted to take some time to highlight one of my favorite past times, watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Mixed martial arts has long been regarded as one of the fasting growing sports in the world and in my opinion may contain some of the best athletes in the world. All that being said, I wanted to take some time to highlight a big win for current light heavyweight Jon 'Bones' Jones this past Saturday which marked a classic victory (and a somewhat creepy finish) against former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Jones ended up choking out Machida unconscious with a move called the front chancery, which apparently is a common move among the wrestling community. After the referee stopped the fight, Jones released Machida from the hold, letting an unconscious Machida flop to the canvas. The reason it was shocked a lot of fans was that it's rare to see a fighter at Machida's level go limp like that, especially from a standing position. Truly an impressive victory and dominate for the light heavy weight champ. Jones might have become a little less humble these days in the press, but you can't deny he's very accomplished at the age of 24 and is on his way to becoming one of the best fighters in the world.
