New Music Playlist

"I just got a kangaroo in a leather jacket..."
Back with a new track and some help from group member A$AP Rocky, Theophilius London dropped "Big Spender" this weekend. The song is a step away from the normal "weird" and blended genre sound that the Brooklyn rapper has performed in the past but his distinct flossedout rap goes well over this DJ Carnage retro hip-hop inspired beat. As the two rappers (A$AP Rocky and London) brand name drop some of the high class and hottest European designers over this bass heavy beat, Shirley Bassey's sampled vocals on repeat in the background give it a touch of sophistication with a slight jazz appeal. This track is definitely something different from the NY emcee, but I am feeling it and keep it on steady rotation.

Frank Ocean has been one of the hardest worker R&B crooners off of Odd Future's camp. Similar to Drake off Young Money with less tears, Ocean has the unique song writing and distinct voice to channel his raw emotions through his music. With his latest free track "Whip appeal", he takes a break from the deep and sings about ridin' round the block with that beautiful girl in your new whip. This smooth track takes inspiration from the Babyface classic and gives off a up-tempo Maxwell vibe. A song you need to have in your car for summer ridin'.

Colin Munroe has been playing the hook game for awhile now. From features on Drake's tracks to other well known artists in the game, Munroe teams up with RZA's production to deliver the new track "Invincible". This beat is sick but the singing is a little weak for me. I wasnt really feeling Colin on the track until after the first verse and chorus but this is definitely a banger. Maybe a rapper on the song would make this something of a classic but good effort from the hook star.

With production from Hit Boy, A$AP Rocky released his first single with a major label behind him today. The NYC rapper with a Houston sound and flow has been steady on the up in the rap game and has continued to prove himself with every new track. With "Goldie" his flow blends well with the heavy bass track and has the rapper letting the world know that he is living a life like no other in the rap game. Off his upcoming debut album LongLiveA$AP dropping in July, Rocky's confidence on the track is reminiscent of an early Kanye with a Southern swag.

Meek Mill has been on his grind before he was signed to MMG and, with the label behind him, he continues to drop new heat. With his latest leaked track "Flexin On Em", he continues the same flow and sound from previous singles like "House Party" and "Ima Boss" while refraining to yell all over the track as he delivers what appears to be his signature style. He definitely knows his lane but needs to show a little more versatility.

XV's flow is similar to B.O.B. in terms of very PG and nerd friendly. He is not about the swagged out flossin life or the thugged out, hard-knock either. He is a rare breed of rapper in a new age of rap and hip-hop, who raps about topics that a normal, everyday American teen could relate to; girls, life, games, and music. With his new leaked track "For My Dawgs" off his new mixtape Mystery Science Theater 3000, he steps away from this past image and tries to make that connection to the streets but keeps it on the same positive tone. Although his flow is tight and the percussion heavy and booming bass beat is memorable, the track comes across a little corny. I am still a fan of XV and know that he has dropped better heat, so every rapper is allowed a slip.

Regardless of what others may think about the two, B.o.b. or Taylor Swift, both artists have dominated the pop charts over the past years with hit after hit. Now B.o.B. is back and teaming up with the country-pop princess on his new track "Both of Us". Seeking the same radio and commercial success he received from "Airplanes", "Both of Us" is a very friendly radio track with another positive message. Although not my forte, the attempted mix of country and rap is a better look than attempts of the past (Nelly).

Released and premiered today on NBC's The Voice, Maroon 5 debuts their new track "Payphone" ft Wiz Khalifa. With this pop-alternative track, Levine searches for the almost extinct payphone to make that one last call to his one love. Changing up the beat and adding a 16 bar rap from Khalifa, this song is geared completely towards becoming another overplayed generic radio hit.

After a 6 year hiatus from the English music scene, Nelly Furtado is back with a new hip-hop/dance track titled "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)". This bass heavy song is very modern mix of tribal beats and rhythms with a club friendly modern appeal and even breaks down toward the end to give a little surprise to the listener. Similar to the beat, this style is classic "Loose" Nelly with an upgraded sound and vibe. I like this song and the beat is a great blend that doesn't over power the singers vocal talents. Her latest LP The Spirit Indestructible is due out June 19th.

I have recently become a fan of Kid Ink over the past couple months. With 3 mixtapes already released, he has made some noise on the underground and is getting ready to drop his debut album Up and Away later this year. With his new track "Lost in the Sauce", he continues to drops bangers over the bass extremely heavy, blow out your speakers, bass instrumental produced by Jahlil Beats. Lyrically he is not the dopest emcee, Kid Ink still has a gold team combination of beats and rhymes with this new track.

With a little something extra, Terabyte Frenzy adds a dubstep remix to the iconic Harry Potter theme song. The track "Harry Potter and the Dub-step Prince" is dope and not too unbearable as a dub step remix but blends well. Enjoy
