Some may know Donald Glover as the breakout comedian from the NBC hit show Community( now cancelled) and writer for 30 Rock, but he also raps under the stage name Childish Gambino. Earlier this month, he dropped his debut album entitled Camp. In the past there has been the rapper turned actor after album and commercial success starts to fade but rarely do you see an actor turned rapper and be taken seriously. With Glover's first LP, he sets out to prove that he is more than just a comic but multi-talented as a rapper and producer. More of an autobiographical album, Glover lets the listener into his up and downs, social and philosophical beliefs, but with some punch-lines thrown in to keep the content light. This album does what a debut album from an emcee should do and that's let the listener feel like they truly know the artist. As a comedian his punch lines can be a little bit on the corny side, "Something crazy, an Asian, Virginia Tech," but within a few years in the game I can see Gambino being a huge mainstream success.
"Heartbeat"
