Mixtape Monday: Brewer of "Witch-Hop"

Azealia Banks is one of the fastest growing female emcees in the game. Within a year she has released multiple critically acclaimed tracks, been praised over the blogs and webs, performed all over the world, and even had a moment of quitting the rap game before even dropping a debut album. Arguably you can say that she is going to have one of the biggest careers in the music industry and today she graces the web with her highly anticipated mixtapeFantasea. After the release of her infectious debut single "212" and the equally dope EP 1991, I was excited to hear what she had next. The few tracks she leaked were promising but the mixtape, as a whole, doesnt live up to the hype. It seems that she took a page outta of Nicki Minaj's dose of crazy/random-but-still-trying-to-please-everybody's sound because the pairing of Banks with a mix of production from British producer Paul Epworth and Araabmuzik come across congested and fails to really come together. Now her quick-tongues, staccato rap flow is still on point but on tracks like "Neptune" and "Out of Space", the production and her voice just dont blend well. She keeps the same style of mixing dubstep, dance, dance hall, and electronic but at some parts of the tape, it just feels rushed. The saving tracks for this mixtape are the already released tracks, "Chips", "Fierce", and "Atlantis".
