Trey Songz has been feeling sad and lonely for some reason these past few releases. However with his new single "2 reasons" ft. T.I., he steps away from the piano and box of tissues and takes you to the club. This is infectious party track with a clapping beat is exactly what he has been missing and signals the return of the self-proclaimed "panty droppa". The addition of T.I. is a nice touch for the club banger. Although this isnt a song I would put on to keep the party going, it is a good pre-game party anthem.

Although new to the industry, singer Starshell has already recruited Big Sean and Kanye West for her latest leak "Superluva (remix)". Discovered by Mary J. Blige and signed to her label Matriarch Entertainment, Starshell got her starting in the industry as a songwriter for many top acts like Kanye West ("Love Lockdown") and Mary J. Blige ("Closer"). Now she is stepping out into the spotlight with a retro-80's electro sound and pop appeal. This theme can be seen in the her first video for the lead single "Superluva", which draws inspiration from the 80's cult-classic movie Weird Science. The song is ok but the remix is a perfect mix for the two emcees on it with a harder, more hip-hop sound.

Azealia Banks has been keeping her name in music news lately but for all the wrong reasons. After dropping her debut EP 1991, Banks dropped her manager, deleted her Twitter, and announced that she was going to walk away from the rap game (hmph maybe it could have been poor sales). She later returned to Twitter and even had time to drop a new leak titled "Aquababe" and what all seemed like less than a week away from the rap game...things that make you go hmmm. Regardless of petty drama, the new single is nothing too out-of-the-ordinary for the Harlem emcee but isn't bad either. She definitely has her own sound of mixing dancehall, electro, and some jungle animal sounds that oddly works over her tongue-twisting rhymes. Her mixtape Aquababe drops later this summer.

ATL alternative-rock group Cloudeater continue to explore different genres and sounds with their new single "Faces". Although I am a little late in coming across this group, I am feeling their new track and anything with Wale delivering a strong rhyme makes my eardrums convince my finger to take full advantage of the replay button. Members Sam Drew, Chris Hunt, Nolan Kramer, Travis Flanders and Daniel Friedman combine their unique and intricate sound with the aggressive flow from DMV rapper Wale to make a mesmerizing track over a instrumental mix of guitars, vocal synths, and percussions.

I have been a fan of the 007 James Bond series since I was a kid (growing up during the Pierce Brosnan era). Even with more changes to the leading Bond actor than Kim K's bedroom, the underlying theme of each incantation was the personification of smooth and cool. With his newly released leak "Young James Bond", newcomer Cesar Luciano takes a confident approach to the Marv-X produced track. Tributing the track to fast women and fast living, Luciano does well in keeping his swag on point while laying down smooth lyrically dope rhymes. His LP drops in July.
West Coast artist Frank Ocean has consistently been able to drop song after song that mixes different genres of music while still allowing the listener to get mesmerized and lost in its hypnotic beats. His latest release "Pyramids" is no exception to this either. Although the song is over 9-minutes long, it;s funky vibe and multiple parts of electonica, R&B, pop, soft rock, and a guitar rip from John Mayer further convince me of his musical talents that borderline genius level of early days of artists like Prince. To make a 9-minute song seem like it is just another 3 or 4 minute track is something that I have not come across in a long time and I have to give props where they are due.

Some songs are made with great lyrics and others are made to give fans a dose of what the artist is all about. Unfortunately, French Montana's new single "Pop That" is neither and strictly geared to get you up and start a party. The commercially-appealing track enlists help from emcees Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and Drake to gain Montana that chart placing hit. With an icy, clapping (possibly booty clapping) beat and Lex Luger production, this single is actually oddly addicting and something strippers and twerkers can enjoy.

After a brief hiatus from the mainstream and some label issues, the sister duo Nina Sky has been making a steady comeback on the underground. In prepartion for their highly-anticipated sophomore album Nicole &Natalie dropping July 31st, the two leak a new single titled "HeartBeat". This Ni** Sky and Slimmy Neutron produced 2nd single is a synth heavy, smooth dance track about finding love in the club is a departure from the "Move Ya Body" singers but still has the same uplifting vibe and catchy hook.

Back with a new roster and a new compilation album dropping later this summer, Maybach Music Group releases a new lead single titled "Power Circle". Although this track enlists the top rappers of MMG and each comes correct, Kendrick Lamar stands out the most and murders each of them on their own track.
Originally meant for release in 2010, VA native Chris Brown recently leaked his new track "Calypso" as a promotion for his upcoming album Fortune. The single is a laid back, R&B track that mixes a little island flavor with a pop vocals. With summertime approaching, I can definitely see this being a moderate radio hit until he album later drops this summer.

Esthero has not released new material in over 7 years. After working with some of the top performers and artists in the industry, she returns with a new track titled "Never Gonna Let You Go". This up-beat, pop influenced single is quirky and just her style. Her new album Everything is Expensive is set to drop later this summer.

Falling more into the pop-friendly world of electro, top producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner is back with a new track titled "Flexx". The aggressive and heavy electro single is a return to the Wolfgang of old and is a preview for the upcoming album set to appeal to his original, core fans. I haven't been that huge of a fan of Wolfgang but I am feeling this bass heavy banger and am excited for what is to come next.

Newcomer Malaysian singer Yuna has recently released her debut album and is a refreshing sound to the music world. Her laid back flow, soft vocals, coupled with warm lyrics are a good mix between new age, soft rock, and jazz. She credits drawing inspiration from popular artists like Bob Dylan, No Doubt, fiona Apple, Sia, and the Cranberries and at the age of 25 has already worked with top producer Pharrell Williams on her lead single "Live Your Life". I am definitely becoming a new fan of her chill vibe and deep lyrics. I will be keeping a lookout for more upcoming work. Her self-titled debut album is available on iTunes now.
