Mixtape Review: B!tch I'm from the 212

Taking the underground world, blogs, and youtube by storm with her hip Chicago House beat single '212', Harlem rapper Azealia Banks gave a little sampler for fans on her latest released EP 1991. Her sassy rhyme skills and unique sound made the emcee a fast growing sensation in the music world. From topping NME's Cool List to performing for Karl Lagerfeld and at Coachella, her fast dance beats coupled with XXX flow and an affinity for the "c-word" make this EP a treat for listeners old and new.
Although the album can really only be considered to have 2 tracks ("212" and "liquorice" were previously released), "Van Vogue" and title single "1991" display more of Banks' lyrical dexterity and slick flow. Both Dancehall inspired tracks come with knocking beats coupled with Banks' tongue twisting attitude filled rhymes. Her lyrical prowess on a track is reminiscent to the early Nicki Minaj mixed with the creative talents of Missy Elliot. However like eating an amuse bouche before a meal, this EP leaves the listener craving more from the 20 year-old emcee. Setting out to spark intrigue, Banks accomplishes the desire from fans to hear more of what she has to offer for her upcoming mixtape Fantastic, dropping 7/4.
