Whatever Wednesday: New Music playlist

camron "f*ck you":

Back with a new track from his upcoming work "More Gunz Less Buttah", Killa Cam aka the pink Ranger aka Dipset!Dipset! is returning to his old flow with "F*ck You". I can't hate on this song because it is the old Cam that fans have been missing and is lyrical dope while still being funny. Behind the gimmicks of the past and the flash and flossin', Killa is actually a great emcee that maintains a good balance of delivering cunning lyrics while not taking himself too seriously.

Sleepy Brown "We Run the Night"
After a brief hiatus, the smooth southern Bootsy Collins and Al green love child Sleepy Brown is back with another laid back chill track titled "We Run the Night". This is classic Sleepy Brown coupled with  melodic songstress in the background adding to the soft beat that could set the mood for chilling with that someone special. Almost a throwback to the baby making music of early days, "We Run the Night" is a nothing too different from Sleepy Brown but something that has been missing from the mainstream for awhile.

Big Krit "I got This"
Big K.R.I.T. has been making steady noise on the underground from mixtapes to leaked tracks, he is both a Southern rapper that can deliver the raw sound of the south and also deliver intelligent, well thought out rhymes similar to other top names in the game like T.I. and Outkast. With his new leaked track "I Got This", K.R.I.T. is returning to the loud, dirty south club banger, almost ignorant rap over a fast tempo bass heavy beat. Had this been his only style, I would have probably just brushed it off but his fans know he is a dope lyricist that not only is versatile with his flow but can still make a banger ratchet listeners would love. "I Got This" isn't a hit but definitely worth a listen.
 Cesar Luciano "Upside Down"
Fellow New Englander (Rhode Island) who currently resides in NYC is an up and coming emcee that recently leaked a heart broken lover's coping song titled "Upside Down". I havent had the casualty of suffering from a broken heart but have been through enough break ups to know that when its over, the feeling of being alone and having your time wasted can, at times, be a little overwhelming. When that woman you cared for walks out the door or disappoints you, you may find yourself struggling to cope and Luciano channels this pain over a Tecknowledgey string sample and soft echoing percussion beat. Lyrically the words are raw but the spoken, somber chorus is the only thing that holds back this decent track. I understand the significance but it just doesn't mix too well with the beat and sounds a little lackluster.

2 Chainz "Like Me"
2 Chainz recently leaked a new track sampling The Weeknd's vocals from "The Birds pt 1&2". Trying to get his smooth, sexy swagga going, Chainz tries to warn ladies that he is no good but will do her body right. I don't really remember the day when 2 Chainz became the new voice for the ratchet and hood n*ggas, but this beat goes and you can't really go wrong with The Weeknd on the hook. You know you are on your way to making it when you have already been sampled without releasing an official LP.

Wale "Cashin Out (freestyle)"
I actually discovered this version of the song before actually hearing the original "Cashin' Out" by Cash out ( tight literacy). I can say that I am a fan of both versions but lyrically Wale kills this freestyle. Ever since Wale joined MMG, he has been dropping more "hard" rhyme tracks, while still spitting that real life rap about love, relationships, and hollering. I have been a fan of Wale since day one and will continue to promote and stand by him. He is lyrically dope and highly underrated. I just hope that one day his albums can be as good and lyrically passionate as his mixtapes, freestyles, and other leaks.

Meelah "Your Love"
Breaking off from 702, the lead singer Meelah is trying her hand at doing it solo and recently leaked a new club friendly track titled "Your Love". I am not sure whether or not this song is still being mastered or if it is just a demo, so I will hold out on full judgment for now. Although uncertain if this is going to be her lead, debut single, I can say that it is a little generic and the singing seems to be off from the beat. I know that coming the highly successful girl group of the 90's and with production from Musiq Soulchild, I know that this song is not the best of what Meelah has to offer.

Waka Flocka "I don't Really Care" ft. Trey Songz
With a new single, it would be a lie to say that the rap game has been missing Waka but a good laugh and some ig'nant rhymes over a heavy beat serves its purpose. How or why he put Trey Songz on the chorus, I'm not really sure but it adds to the catchiness of the song while also adding some order to this track. Waka's style or sound hasn't really changed since his debut album Flockavelli but it hasn't gotten any worse though, so there isnt anything really to complain about. This is classic Flocka and, as the song title states, its clear he doesnt really care. His sophomore LP Triple F Life drops June 12th.

Florence+the Machine
I was first introduced to Florence and the Machine about a year ago during the MTV video awards, around the same time Kanye premiered his "Runaway" song. As a performer I thought that she was great and very different (Bjork mixed with the lead singer from Garbage), but the music wasn't something I was rushing to the stores to get considering that I was more interested in what Kanye was dropping next.  I can say that I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this Clam Casino (A$AP Rocky) remix to the groups single "Never Let Me Go". Something that caught my attention about this song is the deep and haunting vocals that blend well over the smooth, reverberating percussion. I am not sure if I am a complete fan of Florence but I can definitely admit that I will be taking a listen to their crossover debut album.

Sister vs. Sister
Toni Braxton "I Heart You"
"When all else fails, head to the club!" It seems like this is the motto for many artists trying to make that quick hit and keep their name current in mainstream music for a new generation. With a reality show and some controversy, Toni Braxton has recently released a new track titled "I Heart You" off her new upcoming album set to drop in the near future. One thing that is distinct about this new song is that it is something different from the Braxton superstar that we have not heard from her before. Other than the new sound, the song isn't that special but Toni definitely still has yet crooning and moaning all over the feel good, dance track while belting out "I Love You" to the man she cant have,

Trina Braxton "Party or Go Home"
It seems that when you have more than one sibling within the same age range, you tend to borrow or even take some things like clothes, style, toys, or make-up when it comes to sisters. Sometimes it may go as far as borrowing sound from your sibling if you are both musically talented. This borrowing of sound is apparent in the newly released track from songstress/reality tv star Trina Braxton, who recently released a track titled "Party or Go Home". Similar to the new sound and appeal that Toni is going for, Trina decided to make her music for the club and younger generation. Although Trina's song is a little more party and dance oriented with a faster beat and more pop sound, one can not help but feel that there is some swagga jackin going on. I am not sure who is older or younger but I know that both songs sound alike with both artists aiming for a hit in 2012.

Kanye West & DJ Khaled "Theraflu"
Dj Khaled is back with another new track from his upcoming LP set to be released later this year titled "Theraflu". Now Khaled is nowhere near an emcee, but more a glorified DJ/hypeman/producer, he recruits the lyrical talents of Kanye West to turn this club banger into a hit. After a couple listens I would say that Ye's flow is aight at best and the beat is what really makes this song. I am not sure if this is the mastered or just promo release, so I will hold back on full judgement until I hear otherwise.
