American Music Awards 2011…zzzz

It may just be me, and the cynicism of my older age, but it seems that most award shows seem to be getting more and more dull as the years go by. The American Music Awards were last night for those who care and I was actually looking forward to taking the time to see who was going to win and perform. The winners were somewhat predictable and if you have been listening to the radio for the past year then you should of known who was going to take home what. For those who missed out last night, here is a list of winners:
Artist of the Year: Taylor Swift (Where was Kanye when you needed him?)
Sprint New Artist of the Year: Hot Chelle Rae (um ok?)
Favorite Pop/Rock female Artist: Adele (deserved)
Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist: Bruno Mars (expected. He has been making hits all year)
Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group: Maroon 5 (got them moves like Jagger)
Favorite Pop/Rock Album: 21-Adele (great album)
Favorite Country Male Artist: Blake Shelton
Favorite Country Female Artist: Taylor Swift (shocker….-___-)
Favorite Country Band/Duo/Group: Lady Antebellum
Favorite Country album: Taylor Swift-Speak Now (expected)
Favorite Rap Artist: Nicki Minaj ( Have you listened to her lyrics though?)
Favorite Rap/Hip-hop album: Pink Friday-Nicki Minaj (better than watch the throne? Eh ok)
Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist: Usher (had a huge last album and many hits)
Favorite Soul/R&B Female artist: Beyonce (expected but good to see Kelly was also nominated)
Favorite Soul/R&B album: Rihanna-LOUD (not really R&B to me but happy for her)
Favorite Alternative Artist: Foo Fighters (well deserved, great album)
Favorite Adult Contemporary: Adele (well deserved and predictable)
Favorite Latin Artist: Jennifer Lopez (American Idol sure helped bring her back)
Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist: Casting Crowns
Special Award: Katy Perry (well deserved from her mega hit 2nd album)
For the performances of the night, I was slightly disappointed. Many star studded performances but they were easily forgettable and boring. What stood out most was J.Lo, who seemed determine to prove that years out of the spotlight have not slowed her down. Unfortunately by the last performance she gave, I was over seeing her and the Will.I.Am song wasn’t enough to save the light show. LMFAO ended the night with a very funny but pause worthy performance of their two hits “Party Rock Anthem” and “ Sexy and I know it.”
