Mixtape Monday: Rhymes and Beats Playlist

With beats from 9th Wonder, Eric G., and Khrysis, and some dope lyrics, Jamla Record's all-star Rapsody is a female emcee that continues to prove why she is 9th Wonder's protege. With the recent release of her EP The Black Mamba, Rapsody draws some inspiration from basketball *cough* Kobe Bryant *cough* with help from Bluu Suede and Tab-One to deliver some great material that delivers a killer lyrical content over even better chill but raw beats. Appropiately titled, this mixtape is worth a listen from start to finish if you are a fan of rap and provides some great music that the game has been missing from a female emcee.

Miguel: Art Dealer Chic vol. 1

Miguel's progression to mainstream R&B success was well deserved after his, nothing less than audio crack, debut album All I Want is You. Mixing the electro funk, R&B, and sexual undertone in his lyrics, it is clear that Miguel draws his inspiration from legends of the past like Prince while still making a distinct sound of his own. I am a huge fan of his and have been since his first single "All I want is You" ft J.cole was released in late 2010. After the drop of his LP and his success with two hit singles "Sure Thing", "All I want is You", and most recently his track with Wale "Lotus Flower Bomb", he returns with new material to prepare for his sophomore release later this year. His new EP/mixtape Art Dealer Chick Vol. 1 is the first release to a 3 part mixtape to be released on the 27th of the next following months. Although short (3 tracks long), this is a nice preview to the his upcoming work and still maintains the same synthesized vocals over a heavy beat driven well produced track. Questionable personal style aside, Miguel is definitely one of the top up and coming artists and I am looking forward to his upcoming work.

Big K.R.I.T.:4 Eva N a Day

Just released today, Big K.R.I.T. drops his much anticipated mixtape featuring the "Boobie Miles" track released earlier this year. K.R.I.T. self produced the tape and mixed it with Ralph Cacciurri to release 17 dope tracks. Consider that it has just been released today, I haven't been able to fully listen and judge but I can say that so far I really enjoy it. K.R.I.T. has yet to disappoint and this Mississippi bred emcee gives the listener more than just the same heavy bass, carbon copy, southern beat track with little lyrical content but provides a little bit of east coast sound and southern flow. Considering that this tape is free, it is definitely worth the download and I am pretty sure that I will be raping the replay button for almost every track.
