What do you get when you combine a group of talented and somewhat established emcees together in one group? Brilliance. And in one case that's what happened when a crew of veteran emcees decided to get together not too long ago and form a rap super group called eMC. This group came about through the collaboration of rappers Masta Ace, underground royalty and member of the legendary Juice Crew, Wordsworth, masterful freestyle emcee and co-host of the MTV sketch comedy series Lyricist Lounge show, Punchline, one half of the rap duo known as Punch-N-Words, and Stricklin, skilled Wisconsin emcee who was picked up by Tommy Boy records back in 1999 alongside Detroit emcee Royce Da 5'9". All four emcees had previously collaborated through various concerts and tours, but it wasn't until 2001 when all four artists appeared together on Masta Ace's solo album, Disposable Arts. What began as a rumor of a group collaboration back in 2001 eventually became reality when the crew resurfaced as eMC in 2006 with their debut single, titled 'Four Brothers,' and later released their debut album, The Show on iTunes on February 26, 2006. A second single was released in July 2007 called 'What It Stand For' on the group's myspace page. A friend of mine put me on to the group back in 2007 and I've been a fan ever since. It's rare to see a group of so many established artists get together so late in their careers and create a greatness while being able to harmonize as a group. Just reminds you that creativity never gets old. Check out sample links below from the album as well as Lyricist Lounge footage. Classic.
